You would've heard some exciting news if you attended the last Auckland Recruitment Meet-Up at Island HQ. I’ve been running the RAFFL (Recruitment Agency Footy Fantasy League) for 7 years now. Last year we introduced The RAFFL Cup, which pitted recruiter vs recruiter in a knock-out format, showing that inter-agency competition is alive and well. That spurred me on to finally get the ball rolling on something that I’ve wanted to do for years. A 7-a-side recruitment agency football tournament. I can’t pretend that this spurring was all my own doing. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Daniel from Zeil you will know he is a perpetual ball of energy and a man that gets things done. I mentioned to him that it’s something I would be interested in doing in the future and by the end of that day, he let me know that we had the green light. What’s great about Zeil, other than its interface and usability, is its connection with new newly established Auckland FC. This has given access to a wealth of resources; equipment, personnel, venue, etc. making the planning of the big day relatively straightforward. We can now confirm that the inaugural Agency Footy Tourney will take place at
WESTERN SPRINGS on Friday 11th of October.
The number of teams is capped at 18 and the maximum number of players is 14 per team. We all sit on our arses for most of the day, so I think subs are essential. What else is essential; football boots and specifically blades NO STUDS, NO TRAINERS. Spring Siro holds a hard line on that. We’ve already had some early birds lock in their place, the likes of Hays, Adecco, PersolKelly, and Alignz Recruitment. If numbers are an issue, then collaboration is encouraged. Potentia & Digital Garage are laying down their compendiums and joining forces while an amalgamation of BrightSpark, Co-Legal, and Assemble are dusting off their boots for the afternoon (bladed boots, cannot stress that enough) If you're knocked out early doors you will go into a separate pool so there's still a chance of glory.
We’ll be charging an entry fee. Something that pales in comparison to an end-of-quarter bar tab, $200 per team. Don’t worry, you won’t be seeing either me or Daniel swanning around in mink coats towards the end of Oct. The kitty is going to The Glass Ceiling Arts Collective, a charity that provides a creative outlet to young people with disabilities allowing them to perform in roles and productions they sadly may have not had the chance to. I recently attended their production of Little Shop of Horrors and it’s a real privilege and honour to be able to help such a worthy cause.
The day promises to showcase all the great things about our industry; resilience, teamwork, dedication, competition, and hopefully humility. We may even see some famous faces from a certain A-League team turn up. Reach out to me or Daniel to secure your team's place, We're just going to need to know who your captain is as a point of contact. It'll likely be first come first serve so flick us a message, give us a call, or chat with us at tonight’s Auckland Recruitment Meet-Up hosted by Hays Recruitment. Once we have the teams confirmed we’ll do a draw and you can start preparing for the first round. Both Island Recruitment and Zeil are beyond excited to be bringing the industry together and finding out once and for all, what agency has the best ballers. 😎⚽
